This past Sunday Travis had to put down Delilah. She was a 16 year old (human years, don’t really know how to calculate dog years…) German Shepard with a great big heart. As the story goes, Travis got her for Christmas when he was 4 and they were inseparable ever since. He loved that dog more than he did me. It was a terrible way to start off the new year and he’s fallen into a depression slump, in which he started looking for another puppy to try to fill that aching hole that Delilah left. He ended up finding a puppy litter of AKC White German Shepherds being sold on ebay from Durant,OK. Surprisingly I knew where this little town in Oklahoma was because one of my roommates. I guess random roommate assignments pay off. Being the way he is, he wanted to go see the puppies today and so our trip to Durant, OK began. It was an hour and half drive full of 70s and 80s throwback music with the additional karaoke singing by Travis. We finally arrived and I was able to have my first experience with puppy breath (apparently I was missing out how good puppy’s breath smells according to Travis) and with tiny 4 week old German Shepherd doggies!
Can I please keep them all at this age!!
exceedingly playful with each other!
They were cute and shy and warm and extremely tiny!
bye bye for now puppy! see you soon!
Travis ended up choosing a boy, but sadly we couldn’t take him home because he is only 4 weeks old and they can’t leave their mommy’s until they’re at least 6 weeks old. Travis’ pick ended up being the boy with the whitest coat of fur and full of an insane amount of hyperness for a dog their age! Unfortunately, by the time Travis picks him up, I’ll be in Norman already. Hopefully I can convince him to do a quick trip by Norman so I can see him! At the moment we (more Travis’ decision than mine) are debating on what to name him. The strong name contenders are Wall-e (hmmm I wonder who suggested that name), Thor (Travis’ favorite), Klondike, and some others I can’t remember. Later when I find out the chosen name, I’ll post about it!
After putting down a $100 deposit we headed for home where we stopped at Burger King! Have you tried their new fries?! They’re insanely better and way more delicious than their previous ones!
I think what made this trip so special was the fact that once we’re both done with college and if our relationship continues into that point in time where we have to find a place to live together, that puppy we’ll be my dog too! But until then, he is strictly Travis’ doggie.
A new year means a clean slate for many people with lists of resolutions and things they want to change about themselves (good or bad). Although I rarely make resolutions, I have decided to make something that resembles a resolution, but one that I’m hoping continues after 2012 is over and that is to….
After looking back at the past year, I sort of realized what a blessed and beautiful life I live and have lived! Going under the knife and battling heartache were no match for taking down the amazing year I have experienced, they’ve only added on to it. And with these battles I have come to realize I want to learn to forgive. Forgive all the friendships that have crumbled into Facebook acquaintances because of silly mistakes that I thought were right at the time. Forgive all those who seemed to hate me and treat me like jerks because in reality I might have actually caused them to hate me. Just right down to the point, I want to forgive easier. No one is perfect and as time quickly ticks away holding grudges will never get me anywhere. I feel really good about starting this new goal of mine. I haven’t been this excited since Mylo Xyloto came out in late October!!!
